Son of Henry Ale and Sarah Ann Hendrickson, husband of Rebecca Jane Liptrap.
John H. Ale died Wednesday, shortly after noon, at his residence on the corner of Third and Honeywell, of lung trouble.
Funeral services were held at the First M.E. church, of which he was a member, at two o'clock Friday afternoon followed by interment in Floral Hill. He had not been a strong man since he was discharged from the service of this country, but had done what he could at farm work all his life until his removal to Hoopeston in 1890.
He had been ailing more since last November, but had been confined to his bed only since Monday.
John Hendrickson Ale was born in New Jersey July 14, 1830, and came west to Cincinati with his parents eight years later.
When a young man he came to Indiana and worked in Benton county, and near where Boswell now stands, and on November 29, 1857, he married Miss Rebecca Liptrap, who, with four of their six children, survives him. December 16, 1861, he enlisted to serve his country in Company D. 60th regiment of Indiana, volunteers, but was discharged for disability a year later.
He continued farming until 1890, when they came to Hoopeston, and have lived here ever since.
The living children are Alice, wife of Henry Yarbrough of Attica, Indiana, who arrived a few hours after her father's death; Charles, who lives at Noblesville, Indiana; Josiah, who lives at Winemac, Indiana, and Fannie, wife of Hampton Rhodes, living at Miami, Illinois. Besides his wife and children, he leaves two brothers and one sister -- Asa, at Fowler, Indiana; Henry, at State Line, Indiana, and Mrs. Ann Hobson, in this city. Mr. Ale has been a member of the Methodist church for many years, and was an upright citizen and a good man.
He took an active interest in the affairs of the Grand Army of the Republic, and was a member of Harmon Post, No. 115.
