Harry Edward Fudge was born June 16, 1925, in Concordia, Kan., to Thomas and Olive Rogers Fudge. He married Mary Alexander on May 15, 1948.

He served in the Navy during World War II and was a survivor of the USS Gambler Bay, which sank Oct 25, 1944.

He moved to Eugene from Concordia in 1963 and worked as a purchasing agent for the Eugene School District until 1989, when he moved to the Portland area. He enjoyed gardening, reading and remodeling.

USS Gambier Bay was a Casablanca-class escort carrier of the U.S. Navy. She was sunk in the Battle off Samar during the Battle of Leyte Gulf after helping to turn back a much larger attacking Japanese surface force.
