Civil War Union Army Officer. Enlisted as a Corporal in Company F, 24th Michigan Volunteer Infantry on August 15, 1862. Promoted to Full Sergeant on May 1, 1864, and to 1st Lieutenant on May 6, 1864. Served until honorably mustered out on June 30, 1865 at Detroit, Michigan.

He joined the United States Regular Army in 1866, being commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the 14th Infantry on February 23. He was promoted to 1st Lieutenant on July 9, 1866, and was transferred to the 32nd Infantry on September 21, 1866.

He served with the 32nd Infantry until April 19, 1869, when he was transferred to the 21st Infantry regiment. From August 16, 1869 to December 15, 1870 he was unassigned, then was transferred to the 8th United States Cavalry Regiment. Promoted to Captain on December 28, 1871, he served with the 8th Cavalry until his death at Fort Duncan, Texas on January 18, 1881.
