He is best known for writing the songs, 'Free,' and 'Love Impression,' which were recorded by musician Johnnie Taylor, who was at one time part of the musical group, 'The Five Echoes,' and then who became a legendary solo artist. Thomas was also a singer in his own right. A veteran of the Vietnam War, he served in the United States Air Force.
