In 1880, he was in the same township, farming, and living with his wife and children Emma (4), Linnie (1), and Anna (6 months). In 1883, he owned 40 acres of farmland in Ripley County; his 40 acres was immediately west of his brother Jacob's 77 acres. Henry never reached 52. Before he died, he buried a daughter, a son, and his 39-year-old wife.
His middle name, "Mullan," is from his father's stepfather, Henry Harvey MULLEN (1792-1867). Henry was not a Mullen descendant.
His children were Emma Jane, Carrie, Linnie Loretta, Anna, Harrison Ray, Alice Maud, Arthur J., Bernice, and Bertram.
