Archbishop of Canterbury. He was born at Aosta in Piedmont into a noble family. At 27, after a disagreement with his father, he became a monk. He often traveled to England and impressed the locals with his knowledge and piety. Anselm was appointed Archbishop of Canterbury in 1107 and spent his remaining years carrying out his pastoral duties. He was canonized by Pope Alexander VI in 1494.
