He graduated from Keokuk High School in 1960 and went on to receive his Master's in electrical engineering from the University of Iowa.
Richard served honorably in the Army during the Vietnam War until 1969. Throughout his career as an electrical engineer, he worked for several companies involved in cutting edge computer technology in Ohio, Arizona, Florida and
California. Richard was among the pioneers in circuit board development and manufacturing and his work in data conversion technology helped advance the uses of computer chips we enjoy today. He was always building things, fixing things, or inventing things to make life easier. His favorite hobby was building and flying model airplanes.
He is survived by four children: Angie Porter, Tucson, AZ; Cindy Jones, Tucson, AZ; Ryan Fretwell, San Francisco, CA; Courtney Fretwell, Orange County, CA; three grandchildren: Amanda Haddix, Winston, GA; Michael Porter, Tucson, AZ; Corey Jones, Tucson, AZ; and two great grandchildren: Scarlett and Emmaline Haddix, Winston, GA.
Graveside services and inurnment was held at the Providence Cemetery near Williamstown, MO on Saturday, June 18, 2016.
Local arrangements were handled by the Davis Funeral Home in Canton, MO.
