Author. He was a Canadian World War II Veteran, who wrote about his war experiences. Born in Wales, Ontario, Canada, he wrote the acclaimed three-part memoir "The Guns of Normandy: A Soldier's Eye View, France 1944," "The Guns of Victory," and "Where the Hell are the Guns?" which reflected on his experiences serving as a forward artillery observer during World War II. Blackburn received the Military Cross and the Order of Canada for his wartime service. Prior to the war, Blackburn began the career of a news correspondent for the Ottawa Journal during the 1930s.
