British Army General. Known as "The Conqueror of Sind," he was cousin to Admiral Sir Charles. He joined the army when he was 13 years old and was many times wounded in different actions. In 1841 he was sent to India. The taking of Sindh, an area now in Pakistan, was to free its people from the Baluchis under Amir Shir Mohamed. In 1843, after six months of fighting, disease and difficult weather conditions, he finally achieved victory. He served as Governor of Sind until 1847. Napier was also a prolific writer on military and social subjects, and penned a historical romance, "William the Conqueror."
