Mary Anna was born in New Milford, the daughter of Dr. William and Anna (Mason) Whiting, who were originally from Norwich, Connecticut. Mary Anna was residing in Great Barrington, Massachusetts when she married Elijah Boardman, Sept 25, 1792 in New Milford. Elijah was the son of Sarah (Bostwick) and Sherman Boardman, both of New Milford. He became a state representative and then U.S. Senator during his career. They had 6 children between 1794 and 1808: William Whiting, Henry Mason, George Sherman, Caroline Maria, Mary Anna, and Cornelia Elizabeth Boardman. The portrait of Mary Anna and the couple's first born son, infant William Whiting Boardman, was done by Ralph Earl in 1796 (Courtesy of the Henry E. Huntington Library and Art Gallery, San Marino, California). Mary Anna died June 24, 1848 in New Milford at age 80. Her husband preceded her in death in 1823.
