Civil War Union Army Soldier. He was enrolled in the 23rd New Jersey Volunteer Infantry on August 25, 1862, and was mustered in as a Private in Company A on September 13, 1862. He served through the December 1862 Battle of Fredericksburg, and in the May 1863 Chancellorsville Campaign, and was honorably mustered out on June 27, 1863.

On August 5, 1890 he filed for a United States Army Veterans Pension (Application #890004, Certificate #661508).
