The only daughter of John Caldwell Calhoun to marry was Anna M Calhoun.
Anna Maria Calhoun (Feb 13, 1817 Sept 22, 1875) married Thomas G Clemson, native of Philadelphia, who was born July 1, 1807 and died at Fort Hill, South Carolina, in the John C Calhoun home, April 6, 1888.
Clemson attended lectures for four years at the Paris, France, School of Mines, but did not graduate from this school as usually stated. He and Anna Maria Calhoun were married at Fort Hill on November 13, 1838. Clemson later bought the Cane-brake Plantation in Edgefield for twenty-four thousand dollars and farmed it, but he soon sold it and after some years as a mining engineer entered public life as a diplomat.
Mrs and Mrs Thomas G Clemson had 2 children:
1 Capt Calhoun Clemson, instantly killed August 10, 1871 in a railroad collision near Seneca unmarried.
2 Floride Clemson married Gideon Lee of New York. Floride Clemson Lee died 17 days after her brothers death, leaving one daughter, Floride Isabella Lee who married Andrew Pickens Calhoun, son of Duff Green Calhoun.
After the death of their two children, Thomas G Clemson and his wife lived at Fort Hill. Mrs Clemson died suddenly while her husband was away from home.
