Walter Wallace Walker Jr. was born on May 3, 1930 to Walter Sr. and Dortha Johnson Walker. He was the second son and middle child of seven. He had three brothers, John, Alva and Charles, and three sisters, Eloise, Norma and Fayetta. He graduated from Princeton High School in 1948, and began working at Seeger Refrigeration (now Whirlpool) shortly after, where he remained until his retirement in 1993. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1951, serving until 1953. In 1954, he married Phyllis Thompson, and they were married for 49 years, until his death from cancer in 2004. They had 1 son and 3 daughters, 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers John and Alva and sister Eloise.
