American Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He was issued the award on August 31, 1894 for his actions as a corporal in G Company, 8th Missouri Regiment Volunteer Infantry, US Army, during the Siege of Vicksburg, Mississippi on May 22, 1863. Born in Peoria County, Illinois, he joined the Union Army after the outbreak of the American Civil War. In 1907 he moved to the state of Washington where he died at the age of 79, His Medal of Honor citation reads: "Gallantry in the charge of the 'volunteer storming party.'"
