The son of Absalom and Martha (Hall) Forbes, Abner married 24 Sep 1797 in Windsor to Elizabeth West. They had two children: Charles Forbes (married Persis Hatch Cheney of Newport, NH) and Elizabeth West Forbes. His first wife died and Abner married secondly to Sarah Spooner. Abner and Sarah had 13 children. Abner was in the mercantile business. He was a colonel in the militia 1800-1805, general 1805-1810, President of the Bank of Windsor, Judge Windsor County Court 9 yrs, Chief Judge 1823-25, State Legislature 1826-27, member of the governors council in 1828, he also served as states' prison commissioner, trustee of Middlebury College, the Newton Theological Institution, and Columbian University in Washington DC. He was also treasurer of the Vermont Bible Society and a deacon in the Baptist Church. He is a Mayflower descendant through his grandmother Phoebe Leach. SOURCES: FOBES family history by Lawrence G.
