Lucy was born in 1911 to Walter McGee and Janie Walker McGee. She Of was the second daughter in a family of five girls and three boys. She married Joseph Raymond Sheppard on September 17, 1933 and they celebrated their 50th anniversary in 1983. They lived in Savannah most of their married life on Bee Road and raised their children there. Their first son died soon after birth but they eventually had five children, Carolyn Sheppard Carter, Raymond Sheppard Jr. Brenda Sheppard Mattingly, Larry Sheppard and Susan Sheppard Bell.Their grandchildren: William Carter, Robert Carter, Greg Carter, Joseph Sheppard III, Lynda Sheppard Miller, Michael Mattingly, Amanda Mattingly Tuttle, Wendy Bell Stensland, Tammi Bell, Jessica Bell Wardell and Amy Allison Barber.Current great grandchildren: Robert Carter Jr, Ashley Carter, Shane Carter, Krystal Carter, Nichole Carter, Nicholas Miller, Joshua Miller, Jacob Miller, Evan Mattingly, Allison Mattingly, Lucille Valentine Tuttle, Rachel Barber, Heather Barber, Chellsie Barber, Samantha Barber, Lucy Jean Wardell, Leah Belle Wardell, Samuel Lee Wardell and Milo Joseph Stensland. Lucy was a wonderful cook and we really miss her specialties, fried chicken and biscuits.The following was published in the Savannah Morning News:Lucy M. She was a homemaker and the widow of Joseph Raymond Sheppard.SURVIVORS: three daughters, Carolyn Elaine Carter of Mendham, N.J., Brenda Mattingly of Stone Mountain and Susan Bell of Snellville; two sons, Joseph Raymond Sheppard Jr. and Larry David Sheppard, both of Savannah; a sister, Mary Alice Stuart of Augusta; 11 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.VISITATION: 6-9 p.m. today at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Islands Chapel.FUNERAL: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Middleground Baptist Church in Sylvania, burial in Middleground Baptist Church Cemetery.REMEMBRANCES: Middleground Baptist Church, c/o Walter Evans, Bookkeeper, 812 Farmdale Road, Sylvania, GA 30467.
