Actor, Singer, Television Station Executive. He began his career as a radio actor and singer, appearing as a cast member on the "Burns and Allen" radio show in the 1940s. He also performed on Broadway, and appeared on Sid Caesar's "Your Show of Shows" in the 1950s. He was the host of NBC's "Matinee Theater," a daily live one-hour drama series that was one of the first network daytime television shows. On film, he appeared in "Thousands Cheer" (1943), "Nobody Lives Forever" (1946) and "The Man with the Golden Arm" (1955). In 1968, he and his wife, Sirpuhe Philibosian Conte, launched KMIR, a TV station in the Palm Springs/Rancho Mirage area of California, which was affiliated with NBC. They built the station into the third-largest station in the Coachella Valley before selling it to Journal Communications of Milwaukee in 1999. He was one of the founding sponsors of the Eisenhower Medical Center in Rancho Mirage, and was also one of the founders of the McCallum Theatre in Palm Desert.
