Mr and Mrs. Isidore J. Cunningham of DeKalb Junction received on Thursday a telegram from the War Department at Washington informing them that their son, Robert Cunningham, was reported killed in action in France on Nov 15. In September Mr. and Mrs. Cunningham received a telegram from the War Department that their son was missing, to later learn that he had been located.
Private First Class Cunningham is a graduate of DeKalb Junction High School, 1939. He entered service March 1943. He served at Camp Swift, Texas, Camp George Meade, Md., and on going over seas was stationed in Northern Ireland until a few days of D-Day and went to France with the invading army on D-Day.
He is one of four sons of Mr. and Mrs. Cunningham who are in service, all four who have been sent overseas. His brother, Lt. James Cunningham, was reported wounded in Germany about a month ago in action and in a hospital; Pfc. John Cunningham, now at the theater of war in Belgium and Pfc Daniel Cunningham who arrived at England the past month.
A requiem mass will be sung at St. Henry's Church, DeKalb Junction, Saturday morning, by the pastor, the Rev Father A. Audet, for Pfc Cunningham.
