Services for Oscar T. Fitzwater, 90, of Clymers, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Kroeger Funeral Home.
He died at 9:20 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 20, 2005, in Logansport Memorial Hospital.
Born Jan. 24, 1915, in St. Louis, he was the son of Oscar and Kate Bittner Fitzwater. He was married Dec. 21, 1944, in Pacific, Mo., to Helen M. Hoffman, who survives in Clymers.
A graduate of Pacific High School, Pacific, Mo., Mr. Fitzwater retired as chief engineer at the Logansport State Hospital. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in World War II. He enlisted for service on July 15, 1935. He served aboard the USS Milwaukee, USS Bellwood, USS Omaha, USS Haradin, and the USS Princeton.
Oscar received a commendation for meritorious service from President Franklin Roosevelt. He retired from the U.S. Navy in 1965 as a chief machinists mate.
Mr. Fitzwater was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3790, a member of Clymers United Methodist Church, a 50-year member of Columbia Lodge #534 AF&AM in Pacific, Mo., the Murat Temple, Indianapolis Scottish Rite and the Logansport Shrine Club.
Also surviving are one son, James "Mike" Fitzwater and his wife, Myra, Burnettsville; two grandsons, Shane Fitzwater and Eugene Fitzwater; and several nieces and nephews.
The Rev. Kevin Drane will officiate at the services. Burial, with full military honors, will be in St. John Cemetery, Cass County.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
