Peter Meurer was the son of Martin Meurer and Catherine Patt Meurer. He married Johanna Bellinghausen in 1878 in Germany. Peter was the second of three boys who immigrated to the U.S.; John W., Peter and Henry Meurer Sr. There is also said to have been a sister, who joined a religious order in New Jersey.

On 8 Apr 1883 Peter Muerer of Herresbach, 30 years old, applied for emigration to North America with his wife Johanna Meurer, 28 years old, and the following children:
1. Sibilla Johanna, 3 years old;
2. Katharina, 5 months old.
--from Germans to America

Peter and Johanna, their two children, and Johanna's mother, Sibylle Bellinghausen, immigrated to the U.S. aboard the ship Zaandam from Germany and the Amsterdam Port. Peter was 30 years and Johanna was 29 years. Contrary to immigration records, Johanna Sibylla was 3 years, and Catherine was 4 months. They entered the country through CastleGarden, NY.

Johanna Sibylla died at age 9 in 1889 from typhoid fever.

After arriving in St. Louis, Peter and Johanna had three more children that survived to adulthood:
Christina Ewers (1884-1958)
Peter (Ferdinand Peter) (1887-1969)
John (Sept. 1891-1970), husband of Lucille

The 1900 Census states that they had 7 children and 4 were living. In addition to Johanna S., two other children were born and died by 1910.

Peter was a farmer in Germany. In the U.S., he worked at a variety of jobs including day laborer, shoemaker and proprietor of a confectionery.

In 1907, Christina married Mathias (Matt) Ewers, and Catherine married Paul Heidenfelder. The receptions were held at the Meurer family home at 4116 Gratiot.

Peter died from pneumonia and is buried at Sts. Peter and Paul cemetery.
