Lawyer. Editor. Author. Among his twenty plays are: My Uncle's Wedding and The Sentinels, The Disowned, and The Deformed. A successful prose work was entitled Colonel Crockett's Exploits. Buried with him are the infant children borne by his first wife Eleanor Matilda Blodget Lincoln. The children were: Eleanor, Duncan, Helen, and Emma. Horace Wemyss Smith (1825–1891), was the only child to survive to adulthood. After the death of Eleanor, Smith married Isabella Stratton Knisell; they had five children. They lived in his father's country home at the Falls of the Schuylkill.
