Will Douglas Meriwether, age 93, was born at "Woodstock" on January 1, 1837, and died September 12, 1930, in Oak Park, Illinois. He was the father of Elizabeth Meriwether Gilmer, known as Dorothy Dix, noted writer. He married twice, first to Miss Maria Winston, daughter of David Winston. Second, he married Mrs. Mattie Gilmer Chase, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thornton Gilmer. He was a partner of A. H. Patch in making plows on Front Street in Clarksville. His ancestors came from Albemarle County, Virginia. Four children were born to this union, Charles Ed, Mrs. George Patch (Mary), Mrs. George Gilmer (Elizabeth), and Willie, who died in infancy. He was the youngest son of Charles Nicholas Meriwether and Caroline Barker, daughter of Charles Barker. Interment was at Greenwood Cemetery, Clarksville.

Funeral services for the late William Douglas Meriwether, father of Mrs. Elizabeth Gilmer, better known as Dorothy Dix, and C. E. Meriwether of New Orleans, were held Monday at Clarksville, Tenn., the old family home, according to advices received in the city Tuesday.
Mr. Meriwether, who was nearly 94 years old, died while visiting another daughter, Mrs. George Patch, at Oak Park, Ill., last Friday. Mrs. Gilmer and her brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Meriwether, were in New York when they received word that their father had been stricken. They hurried to his bedside, but arrived only to find him dying.
Mr. Meriwether had made his home in New Orleans with Mrs. Gilmer during recent years and four years ago was tendered a party by his family, which included children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren. This was on his 90th birthday, January 1, 1927.
A native of Woodstock, Ky., Mr. Meriwether was at the University of Virginia when the War Between the States began. He enlisted, but was forced to return to his home because of illness after a brief service with the Confederacy. He was the son of a noted Kentucky family. In 1861 he married Miss Maria Winston, a belle of the ante bellum days.
Children surviving Mr. Meriwether are Mrs. Gilmer, C. E. Meriwether, New Orleans business man, and Mrs. George Patch of Oak Park, near Chicago.
Mrs. Gilmer and Mr. and Mrs. Meriwether are expected in New Orleans today.
