My Great Grandmother Nora was born to the union of John and Artilda Ann Christopher Golden in Texas, possibly Red River County. Her father died when she was very young [age 5 according to her youngest daughter]. According to her daughter Freda, her biggest memory of her father was running out to greet him and he would swing her up on the saddle in front of him. In 1905 Nora married John Edgar Lewis in Dodson, Winn Parish, LA. She became the mother of two boys, Earl Edgar and Alton Edwin and three girls, Daisy Bell, Hazel Bernice and Freda Lea. Nora faced difficult trials in her life that would have broken any other woman. She provided for her children and was the rock that they clung to. She was very gentle and loving. I regret not knowing her. After being cared for by her youngest daughter Freda, she died peacefully and was laid to rest beside the husband she never stopped loving.
