Karolina Melcher's maiden name was Karolina Von Vaterlous. She was born in Zolliken of Zurich, Switzerland, Sept. 4, 1863. She came to America in 1885, going first to Wisconsin and later to Waterville, Kansas , where she was married to Henry Melcher, Feb. 25, 1890.

Mrs. H. Melcher, resident of Concordia since 1910, died at her home 442 West Fifth street, this morning following a long illness. She was 74 years of age. Mrs. Melcher, whose maiden name was Karolina Von Vaterlous, was born in Zolliken of Zurich, Switzerland, Sept. 4, 1863. She came to America in 1885, going first to Wisconsin and later to Waterville, Kansas, where she was married to Henry Melcher, Feb. 25, 1890. To this union eight children were born, one dying in infancy. The family came to Concordia in 1910 and she has resided here since that time. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge, of Concordia, and was a charter member of the Royal Neighbor Lodge, in Waterville. She was also a member of the Lutheran Church in Waterville, having transferred her membership from the church in Switzerland. Surviving and these children: Mrs. Mary Beesley, of Aurora; Mrs. Ella Heaton, of Jamestown; Mrs., Edith Wagner, of Riverside, Calif. l Henry J. Melcher, of Salt Lake City, Utah; Mrs. Marie Scott and Mrs. Margaret Bryan, of Riverside, Calif., and Miss Clara Melcher of the home. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, and by one sister, who lives in Switzerland. Mr. Melcher died in 1936. Although Mrs. Melcher had been in ill health for some time, she was always interested in her home and family. She was a great lover of flowers and was willing to share with her friends and neighbors. She has many friends, who will mourn her passing. Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 1 o'clock, at the residence on West Fifth street, and the body will be taken to Waterville, Kansas for burial.
