George Wendall Barcus was the son of Edward Rosman Barcus & Mary Frances Smith. The family moved to McLennan County, TX in 1875 from TN and settled on a farm 10 miles west of Waco. Barcus attended public schools in the county and Southwestern Univ. at Georgetown and studied law under E.A. Jones. During the Spanish-American War, he served in the 2nd Texas Regiment. In 1899 he was admitted to the Bar and soon after established his home and office in Waco. He represented his district in the TX Legislature in 1905. He moved to Hereford in 1906 but returned to Waco in 1911. Barcus was appointed associate justice of the Tenth Court of Appeals of Waco by Gov. Pat Neff in 1923 and served until 1933. In 1941, he was Assistant Attorney General of TX.
In 1902 he married Edna Wilburn of Comstock, they had one son.
