Arnold L. Hance, died August 15, 1994 in Canton-Potsdam Hospital, Potsdam, where he had been a patient since Aug. 9. He had been in ill health for the prior 10 years.

The funeral, with full military honors took place be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Rensselaer Falls United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Betty Masters officiating. Burial was in Arlington (Va.) National Cemetery .

Born Nov. 21, 1921, in Russell, a son of David and Stella Post Hance, he graduated from Gouverneur High School in 1939.

Mr. Hance served as a medic in the Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1946 in the Pacific Theater of Operations with the 505th bomb group. This was the group assigned to drop the atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan.

He received an honorable discharge in 1946 and returned to Gouverneur, where he was a dairy farmer.

Mr. Hance re-enlisted in the Air Force in 1952 and was stationed in England for four years.

He married Margaret Fitzhugh July 16, 1955, in Kattering, England. The couple was transferred to California for six years and then to England, where they resided for four years. Mr. Hance retired in 1968 as a medic sergeant stationed in Oregon. The couple moved to Rensselaer Falls.

Mr. Hance was employed for 17 years by Corning Glass Co., retiring in 1984 after becoming disabled.

He was an exempt member of the Rensselaer Falls Volunteer Fire Department and was a former trustee of the village of Rensselaer Falls.
