Miss Karre was my fifth-grade teacher. (Her sister, Hildred, was a teacher at another elementary school in the same school district.) One of the most memorable things about her class was that she made us do quite a bit of memorization - specifically, Lincoln's Gettysburg Address and Robert Frost's poem, "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening."

Wilma W. Karre June 29, 1914 July 4, 2009 Resident of San Leandro CA Wilma, the daughter of William and Florence (Kaliff) Karre was a native of Cotesfield Nebraska. Following her graduation from Cotesfield High School, she earned a Bachelors of Arts degree from Nebraska State University at Kearney. Graduate work was taken at U of Nebraska, Lincoln, U of Wyoming, Laramie, San Jose State, U of CA and UC Berkeley in CA. A career public school teacher for 44 years, she taught in Howard Co. Schools, Beaver Crossing, Dorchester, and 14 years in the NE public schools. She retired from the Roosevelt School of San Leandro CA. after 20 years. The Karre Marionettes, which she and her sister Hildred H. Karre designed and constructed, entertained hundreds of young and old throughout NE and surrounding states, as well as many schools and organizations in the Bay area and surrounding areas of CA. Wilma, an active member of Rebekah Lodge, served as Noble Grand as well as holding many other offices. Other services to the community of San Leandro were: member of Broadmoor Church and President of the Women's Fellowship, Past president of the Movie Crafters of Alameda and Historian for the CRTA Teacher's Association. Wilma enjoyed traveling which took her from the Baltic Countries to Hawaii and from Alaska to the Carribean. She served as organist for the AARP and Sunday Seniors of San Leandro. A singing group, The B Sharps was organized and gave many programs in the community. Upon her retirement from Roosevelt School, she was awarded a life membership in the state PTA and the same recognition for the local PTA Preceding her in death were her parents, brother Herman and sister Hildred and sister-in-law Dorothy.
