Born in Lincoln County, Tennessee, Abner M. Templeton was the son of Avis W. Cashion and John H. Templeton, and the husband of Mary Ann Couch. According to census records, his parents were born in North Carolina.

Abner passed March 14, 1900 in Sebastian County, Arkansas. He is buried at Steep Hill Cemetery along with his mother, sisters, and son, Luther.
