Civil War Union Army Soldier. He was mustered in as a recruit Private in Company A, 1st New Jersey Volunteer Cavalry on April 18, 1862. He served through the conclusion of the war, and was honorably mustered out on April 16, 1865.

Relatives and friends, employees of Adams Express Company and all other organizations to which he was attached, invited to attend funeral services, Monday afternoon, 2 o'clock, from his late residence, 104 North Woodstock street (above Twentieth and Cherry sts.). Interment private, Mt. Vernon.
