Professional Football Player. For nine seasons (1952 to 1960), he played at the quarterback position in the Canadian Football League with the Montreal Alouettes. He was a member of three Alouette teams' that appeared in the Grey Cup game (1954 to 1956). He attended Carlsbad High School and played collegiate football at the University of Denver. Among his other notable career highlights include six-time All Star selection (1953 to 1957, 1960), recipient of the Schenley Most Outstanding Player Award in 1954 and two-time recipient of the Jeff Russell Memorial Trophy (1954, 1958). In addition, Etcheverry played at the quarterback and punter positions for two seasons (1961 to 1962) in the National Football League with the St. Louis Cardinals appearing in 28 career games. Following his playing career, he served as coach of the Montreal Alouettes and guided them to the 1970 Grey Cup title. He was inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 1969. He died from cancer.
