Hall of Fame Professional Basketball Player. He was born Clifton Nathaniel in Little Rock, Arkansas and later raised in Chicago, Illinois. After serving in the U.S. Army during World War II (WWII), he first rose to fame as a member of the Harlem Globetrotters (1947 to 1950). He played at the center and forward positions for eight seasons (1950 to 1958) in the National Basketball Association with the New York Knicks and Detroit Pistons. Along with Earl Lloyd and Chuck Cooper, Clifton was one of the first African-Americans to play in the NBA. Clifton appeared in 790 regular season NBA games scoring 5,312 points with 2,532 rebounds. He was selected to the 1957 NBA All Star Team. In 2014, he was posthumously inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
