Mary Dorris Arant

Mary Dorris Arant, longtime resident of Ponca City, died Tuesday, March 20, 2007, at her home. She was 82.

The funeral will be held Friday, March 23, at 2 p.m. at First Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. David L. Bigger, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at Longwood Cemetery under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel.

Mary Dorris was born Aug. 17, 1924, in Geronimo, the daughter of George and Minnie Blankenship Sanmann. She grew up and attended schools in Geronimo. Mary Dorris met a soldier stationed at Fort Sill, Delbert Oran Arant, and they were married on Oct. 6, 1941, in Lawton. Soon after, Delbert was transferred and stationed in Hawaii and Mary Dorris lived with her in-laws in the Shidler area until Delbert's honorable discharge.

Mary Dorris began working at the Thunderbird Motel in Ponca City in 1963 and was still working as a clerk at the now, Guest Inn. She also worked in food service with the Ponca City Public Schools. She began as a cook at East Junior High in 1987 and currently was preparing meals and serving juice to the students at Lincoln Elementary, which she thoroughly enjoyed.

Mary Dorris was a very hard worker and tried to always stay busy, but she always had time to spend with her family and be actively involved in her kids,' grandkids' and great-grandkids' lives. She was the perfect "Grandma."

She is survived by five daughters, Phyllis Kratz of McMinnville, Ore., Linda Bottoms of Lago Vista, Texas, Arlene Parks of Ponca City, Anita Lunn of Ponca City, and Cathy Richardson of Oklahoma City; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Delbert on June 1, 1987; two brothers, Orville and Everett; two sisters, Mabel and Elsie; and a great-grandson.

Casket bearers will be grandsons, Donavon Lunn, Jason Lunn, Ryan Lunn, Matt Parks, Jared Parks, Shaun Arant and Eric Bottoms. Honorary bearer will be Joshua Gardenhire.

The family will be at 137 Lansbrook.
