Josephine was the daughter of James & Celia Pugh. She was a reporter for the Indianapolis News when she met and married famous poet William Miller Herschell. They were wed on June 3, 1908. They didn't have any children.

Mrs. William Herschell Buried Tuesday

Mrs. Josephine Herschell widow of the late poet William Herschell, a native of Spencer, who wrote the poem, "Ain't God Good To Indiana", died Sunday in an Indianapolis nursing home. She was 93.

Funeral rites were held Tuesday at the Flanner & Buchanan Fall Creek Mortuary. Interment was in crown Hill Cemetery.
