Athena was born to Pearl Jane Gritton and George Demitri a.k.a.Thymaras Spetsas in Copperfield Utah. She married Julian Don Stevens and they had four daughters. She fought a valiant fight against Breast Cancer serving others all the while. Even when she would go to her chemo treatments she always went around and visited each of the other patients to see if they needed anything. All who knew her learned a great deal by her example. Her last Christmas she spent time making Christmas stockings for kidney dialysis patients and took the time to go around and visit each patient at the Central Valley Dialysis Center in Salt Lake City, Utah.
She was raised a member of the Greek Orthodox Church but converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She fully enjoyed serving others in her callings particularly working in the library to help others with their responsibilities.

Our beloved mother, sister, daughter and friend, returned to Heavenly Father, Thanksgiving Day, November 27, 1997, after six year battle with breast cancer.
She was born July 17, 1930 in Copperfield, UT, to George Demitriou Spetsas and Pearl Jane Gritton. Athena served over 20 years as the building librarian in the Hunter West and Copperhill Stakes. She felt she could do her part by helping others to prepare for their lessons as they prepared to teach the gospel of Jesus Christ. She has an unshakeable testimony of the gospel and more than anything else will be remembered for her great love of the Savior, Jesus Christ. She also had a great love and admiration for the prophets, and little children. No matter how difficult her challenges became she always managed to stay close to the Lord and continued to read her scriptures every day until she was no longer conscious.
Athena leaves behind four daughters, Patti Jean Stephenson, Dawna Marie Stevens, Debra Stephanie Stevens, Cheryl Lynn DuBois. She also leaves behind her siblings, Bill, Mable, Helen, Matina, James and George Spetsas. Athena also had three granddaughters and seven great-grandchildren. Athena was preceded in death by Joni Ann Stevens (daughter), Lowell Vernon DuBois (husband), Gust Spetsas (brother), and her parents.
The family wishes to express thanks to the Copperhill 3rd Ward for all their help and prayers over the past six years. Thanks to her doctors and nurses who cared for her. As her family, we have been blessed to have her in our lives and she leaves a legacy for us to follow.
