Abraham James Bowers, Jr. was the son of Abraham James Bowers, Sr. and Christena Sinclair Bowers. He met my grandmother, Nettie Beryl Bigler, when he knelt down to help her with her button hook to re-fasten one of her high-buttoned shoes that had come undone. Her cousin, Cecil Goldsbrough, formally introduced the two. He married Beryl on July 5, 1907, and built the house where they lived and raised their children at 595 East 2nd North in Nephi, Utah. They were the parents of Arthur James Bowers, Beryl Bowers (Davis), Don Eugene Bowers, Ruby Bowers (Whittington), and Frank A. Bowers. The family moved to Spanish Fork, Utah for few years and lived on a small farm in Spring Lake, Utah for a while. In 1933 they returned to Nephi. He preferred to be called "A. J." but everyone called him Abe including Grandma. He was the manager for the telephone company in Nephi for ten years and then for the Consolidated Wagon Company. After that, he worked for the Works Progress Administration or WPA.

The couple raised their own chickens and kept a cow for milk. Grandpa walked with a limp as the result of being kicked by a horse when he was young. Although most of these pictures don't show it, he always wore a hat when he went out and would hang it on the antlers of the stuffed deer head that hung in the kitchen. He was the best "grandpa" in the world and always kept a supply of peppermints in his coat pockets for all of his grandchildren.
