He eventually died an old man amongst some of his children in Columbia SC.
He and his wife are buried in Olympia Cemetary in Columbia.

Joseph B.M. Wright, 70, died suddenly at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon at the home of his daughter, Mrs. W. A. Thomas, 524 Georgia St.
He had been in declining health for several months.
He had made his home here for the past 25 years, where he was a member of the Baptist church. Mr Wright was a veteran of the Spanish-American War.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Annie Ellis Wright; four sons, Charles C Wright of Irmo, Eugene D Wright, Walter C Wright and John C Wright, all of Columbia; two daughters; Mrs. W.A. Thomas and Mrs. Emily Brown of Hollywood Calif. 23 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Funeral services will be held from the Whaley Street Methodist church at an hour to be announced late. Interment will be in the Olympia cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be O.P. Elkins, Alonzo Cauthen, Ruben Aaron, Walter Aaron, W.E. Thomas, Thomas Nichols, Sr.
