Hansine is buried in the Grand Island Cemetery. She was an 1884 Danish immigrant; it's unknown who traveled with her to the USA. Wife of Christian Pedersen Birk whom she married 18 August 1885 in Council Bluffs, Pottawattamie Co., Iowa, and with whom she raised their 13 children!

Oral family history states that Hansine is descended from Danish royalty and also from Leif Ericksson, the famous Viking, but her descendancy from them has yet to be proven. Her husband Christian, however, has a very rich ancestry of royalty and 2 Saints in his family tree!

Information added by their proud great-granddaughter who deeply wishes that she had had the opportunity to know and love them.

She was a member of Andrew chapter, No. 41, Order of Eastern Star and of the Degree of Honor, in which organization she had served in every grand lodge office, being a past grand president of the state of Nebraska at the time of her death. She also was a member of the A.O.U.W.
