Thomas Jefferson was the son of Samuel Igo and Caroline Belvedere Phillips Fields.

Tom married Alta Barlow Hutchison and together they had ten children: Leroy (Roy), Samuel (Sam), Ruby, Winona, Dollie, Thelma, Desmond, Caldona (Callie), Denver, and Billy Jo.

Papa went blind and I remember how he would sit in 'his' chair in the living room and tell Indian stories to us kids sitting around his feet. He would speak Cherokee and we would be amazed at him. I wish now that I would have paid closer attention to those stories.

I have part of a recording of Papa singing 'At The Cross' at one of our family gatherings and its very special.

He was living at the old family home in Jay when he passed away at the hospital in Gravette, Arkansas.

Tom and Alta were 'Mama and Papa' Fields. They are my grandparents.

My mother is Dollie Fields George and Tom (Papa) Fields is her father and Alta (Mama) Hutchison Fields is her mother.

'Words of Papa Fields' with the poetry written by Tom Fields has been published and the history of their family, 'The Children of Mama and Papa Fields, both can be purchased here:
