US Congressman. He studied law, was admitted to the Kentucky State Bar in 1845 and opened a law practice in Mayfield, Kentucky. He was a presidential elector on the Whig ticket of General Winfield Scott and William A. Graham in 1852 and a member of the Kentucky State House of Representatives to 1855 from 1857. In 1863, he was elected as an Unconditional Unionist to the Thirty-eighth Congress, serving until 1865. Declining to be a candidate for reelection, he resumed the practice of law until his death at age 74.
