She was born August 6, 1938, in Letcher Co., KY, to the late Columbus "Lum" and Polly Ann Bates Meade. On January 26, 1957, she married Louis G. "Lou" Adkins, who survives.
Also surviving are children, Brenna (Craig) Gibson, of Chillicothe, Kathy Adkins, of Atlanta, GA, Linda (Anthony) Lemaster, of Williamsport, Louis "Louie" Adkins, of Brunswick, GA and Cherie Terry, of Winter Park, FL; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sisters, Wilma Neary, of Swansboro, NC, Billie Lois Hicks, of Waverly and Elizabeth (Roger) Gobel, of Jackson; brothers, Eugene (Cathy) Meade, of Ohio, Harold Meade, of Jackson and Howard Meade, of Texas; numerous nieces and nephews; and a special sister-in-law, Virginia "Aunt JenJen" Meyer, of Melbourne, FL. She was predeceased by a son, Wendell Adkins.
Columbia retired from General Electric, Circleville and was a member of the First Freewill Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, August 28, 2010, in the WARE FUNERAL HOME, with Rev. Mitchell Salyers officiating. Burial will follow in Floral Hills Memory Gardens. Friends may call at Wares from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday.
