MATOAKA — Randolph "Randy" Godfrey, 43, of Matoaka, died Friday, September 7, 2007 in Matoaka. Born January 29, 1964 in Bluefield, he was the son of Beatrice York Godfrey of Matoaka and the late Weldon S. Godfrey Sr.

Mr. Godfrey was a member of the Matoaka Methodist Church. He was a former employee of East River Metal in Princeton. He was well liked, good hearted and devoted to his family. He was an outstanding athlete and was selected as Captain of the West Virginia All-State Basketball Team in the early 1980s while at Matoaka High School. He had great admiration for sports and loved his West Virginia Mountaineers.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Ted Godfrey and Dora Pennington Godfrey; and his maternal grandparents, Mike and Grace York.

In addition to his mother, survivors include two brothers, Weldon Godfrey Jr. and his wife Linda of Hampton, Va. and William B. Godfrey of Pinoak; one sister, Carol Diane Shepperd of Newport News, Va.; a special aunt, Oden Godfrey of Matoaka; two nephews, Weldon Godfrey III and his wife Jennifer of Nashville, Tenn. and Andrew Godfrey of Hampton, Va.; and two nieces, Kimberly B. Roth and her husband Michael of Durham, N.C. and Melissa K. Godfrey of Charleston.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 12, 2007 at Resthaven Memorial Park in Princeton with the Rev. David Damewood, officiating. Honoring his request, the body has been cremated.

Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, September 12 at the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton. Those attending the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home by 10:45 a.m. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.bailey-kirk.com
