Terry Runte, a promising young writer, was in Jamaica researching an upcoming film project. Following an evening out with friends, Terry stopped to help some cyclists who appeared to be having mechanical problems when they pulled a gun on him, forced him back into his car and drove him to Shark's Rock in Port Antonio. There he was assaulted, robbed and thrown into the shark infested waters. His burned out rental car was found three days later; his body was not recovered. Three men, including a local man who was a passenger in Terry's car, were arrested.

Among his writing credits are movie scripts "Mystery Date" and "Super Mario Brothers".

A memorial plaque was erected in his memory.
