US Congressman. He graduated from Hobart College in 1833, studied law, was admitted to the bar and commenced to practice law at Geneva, New York. He was a member of the New State Assembly in 1842 and judge of the Ontario County Courts, (1855-56). Moving to Madison County Alabama, he engaged in agricultural pursuits and was a member of the Alabama State constitutional convention, in 1865. In 1869, he was elected as a Democrat to the Forty-first and Forty-second Congresses, serving until 1873. After his term, he retired from public service.
