Eldest daughter of King Johann of Saxony. Maria was the eldest daughter of King Johann I (1854 – 1873) and his wife Amalia, the daughter of Maximilian I, King of Bavaria, and was christened Maria Augusta Frederica Carolina Ludovica Amalia Maximiliana Franziska Nepomucena Xavier. She bore the additional title of Duchess of Saxony. She was sister to the kings, Albert I (1873 – 1902) and George I (1902 – 1904). She remained unmarried.
