Circus Entertainer. Lottie joined the circus between the age of 14 to 16. Even at that young age, it has been stated that she weighed 500 pounds. Lottie was known as the original "Fat Lady of the Circus." After joining the circus, she was not content to just be the fat lady; she began to handle snakes, known as a snake charmer, making her show even more of a spectacle. She traveled with many groups and eventually made it big in the freak show circle when she joined Barnum and Bailey's show. Her obituary states she was married three times and produced four children. At the time of her circus tour, it is said she was the largest woman in the United States. At the time of her death, her weight was 650 pounds. When she died, a special casket was made. It was 6 feet long, 3 feet 4 inches wide, and 2 feet 3 inches deep. Lottie was 45 at the time of her death.
