Kansas Governor. Educated at the University of Kansas and at the University of Nebraska, he entered politics serving as a member of the Kansas House of Representatives, (1900-08) and as a member of the Kansas State Senate in 1912. In 1922, he was elected as a Democratic, the 22nd Governor of Kansas, serving until 1925. While in office, he improved the road bill was authorized, taxes were cut, utilities were controlled, prohibition and women's suffrage were endorsed, increased funding was secured for veterans' pensions and banking procedures were limited. After an unsuccessful bid for reelection, he retired from public service. He died at age 72 following a lengthy illness.
