U.S. Congressman. He graduated from Harvard University in 1789, studied law; was admitted to the bar and commenced to practice law in Portland, Maine, which was a district of Massachusetts, until 1820. He was a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives, (1806-12). In 1813, he was elected as a Federalist to the Thirteenth and Fourteenth Congresses, serving until 1817. An unsuccessful candidate for re-nomination, he was an associate clerk of the Portland Court, (1817-20), a member of the Massachusetts State Senate in 1820 and practiced law until his death at age 53.
