Born in Virginia, he enlisted in the Confederate States Army, and was assigned to the 19th Virginia, Pickett's Division. He was in both the first and second battles of Bull Run, Williamsburg, Frederickstown, and Gettysburg. Wounded twice before, in Pickett's Charge he was shot again, and lay on the battlefield two days and nights. Spent 2 years in Union prisons at Fort McHenry, Point Lookout, Fort Pulaski, Morris Island, and was released from Fort Delaware in June of 1865.b. near Scottsville;2nd Lt.,Co.C,19th Va.Inf.Regt.-CSA. One of the "Immortal 600".
