David W. Newcomer III, founded Funeral Security Plans, Inc., in 1959. It was his grandfather David W. Newcomer Sr. that founded the family business. D.W. Newcomer Sr. was once a sash and door maker from Mt. Morris, Illinois, he was once called upon to arrange funeral services for a close friend. This was the beginning of a new career for Mr. Newcomer Sr., and the start of a family business as well. About 1893, he opened the D.W. Newcomer Undertaking and Livery. Located at 9th & Brooklyn in Kansas City, Missouri. David W. Newcomer, Jr. purchased land at 46th & Paseo in the early 1920's. Construction of the funeral home began in 1925 with a second phase in 1936. Today, the funeral home building at Brush Creek & Paseo is listed in the National Register of Historic Places, Washington, D.C. The funeral home at Brush Creek and & Paseo became company offices, after closing in April 1986. D.W. Newcomer's Sons now owns and manages 15 funeral homes, 11 cemeteries, and a prearrangement company, operating in the Kansas City metro area. This cemetery has changed names, and is now listed in the Kansas City phone book as Johnson County Funeral Chapel-Mausoleum & Crematory. Name change probably occurred when D.W. Newcomers Sons took over the property. D.W. Newcomer Sr. and D.W. Newcomer Jr. are both buried at Forest Hill Cemetery, Kansas City, Jackson County, Missouri, USA.
