U.S. Congressman. While as a school teacher, he studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1865, commenced to practice law in Wilmington, Ohio and was also permitted to practice law in the Ohio State Supreme Court. In 1875, he was elected as a Democrat to the Forty-fourth Congress, serving until 1877. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he resumed to practice law until his death.
